Using Follett eBooks
View your eBook in two ways:
1) Follett’s Enhanced Online Reader
You can view an electronic copy of your eBook that is stored on Folletts server in an Internet browser window. Simply click on the read online button (if provided within your OPAC) or on the Internet link in the title details screen of the eBook.
The enhanced Follett Online Reader makes eBooks even more user-friendly with an option to display one or two pages at a time. This enhancement allows readers to view a two-page spread at once, making the eBooks more visually appealing, especially for younger students.
Easy-to-understand icons at the top of the Follett Online Reader window let you go to different pages or chapters, search for specific words and even look up words you don’t know in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary — all with the click of a mouse. If you do not interact with the eBook for 15 minutes, the Follett Online Reader session will end so that once again it is accessible from your library’s electronic catalog.
For more information about these enhancements or Follett eBooks in general, please call our dedicated eBook consultants at 877.221.3506 or email Customer Service at cutomerservice@flr.follett.com for more information. Click here for Frequently Asked Questions.
2) Follett Digital Reader (Offline Reader)
Follett Digital Reader makes it easy for students, teachers and administrators to utilize your school’s eBooks from the computers they use to access to your library’s electronic catalog*. When using the offline reader your eBooks are downloaded to a local computer through your circulation system.
* See the list of supported operating systems here.
The Destiny circulation system will provide a specific download button when you select an eBook in your librarys electronic catalog. Just click on the link to download (check-out) the eBook to your computer. If your system does not provide a download button, simply click on the large DOWN arrow that is the last button on the right in the eBook online reader window.
Follett Digital Reader is provided free of charge to your library and can be downloaded from www.follettebooks.com/readersupport if it is not already installed on your local computer. |

Take a Follett eBook for a test drive.
Want to give a Follett eBook a try? The first step is to import a MARC record into your circulation system. A sample eBook MARC record for "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London can be downloaded by clicking here.
MARC records for Follett eBooks can be imported using the same process that you use when importing records for your regular print books. Once you have imported the sample MARC record into your circulation system, the eBook is accessed through your OPAC, using the link in the 856 tag. If you need assistance with the import process for your circulation system, please contact your circulation system vendor for assistance
Note: We make this same eBook record available to all customers for testing so it will not contain local holdings information specific to your school. If your system requires a material number to make items available to your patrons, you will need to add this information to the record after importing the sample. |

Frequently Asked Questions about eBooks
What types of books are available as eBooks?
All different types of eBooks are available from Follett Library Resources — we offer everything from picture books to all levels of fiction, nonfiction, professional development and reference materials.
How are other schools using eBooks?
- Many teachers build classroom activities around an eBook that is projected on a whiteboard. Students can search and highlight vocabulary words, read along with the teacher to enhance reading skills, or diagram sentences right in the book on the screen.
- Teachers can copy/paste sections of the book, and then print a handout or distribute the passage to students for homework assignments.
- Many schools allow users to access their electronic catalog from home, allowing students and teachers to view and check out eBooks 24/7.
- Students can make notes and highlights in a downloaded book to assist them with studying and learning.
How do you control the download/checkout period of an eBook?
That depends on what type of electronic circulation system your school is using. If you are using the most recent version of the Follett Software Company Destiny circulation system you control the download/checkout period and circulation of your eBooks through that system. If you are using any other electronic circulation system, you set the download/checkout period for all your eBooks when you place your first order with us. The default download/checkout period is 3 days, but you can specify another time frame.
Can your eBooks be downloaded to a handheld device?
While support for portable devices is not available the current release of Follett Digital Reader, we are continually evaluating feedback from our customers, and will be adding features in subsequent releases that are important to educators and students. If portability is important to you, please let us know at ReaderIdeas@FDR.Follett.com
Can you print pages from an eBook?
While most eBooks do allow printing, we can not guarantee printing privileges, as this is set by the publisher.
Can more than one person access an eBook at the same time?
Only one person can view or download an eBook at a time. If you want more than one person to have access to an eBook title at the same time, you will need to purchase multiple copies of the eBook.
